Time for a Change

Christmas pictures on instagramIt’s time for me to take a break from this blog.  Most likely it will be a permanent one.  The truth is my heart  just isn’t in it anymore.  I think I’ve known that for a while now.  I think many of you have known that too.  So thank you for all the comments, the kind words,  the shares, the likes and everything in between.  These past eight years have been a blast!

That said, I’ll still be around on Instagram (photos above) and sharing what I’ve been up to. If you want to keep in touch on Instagram, click here.

A Visit from St NickI also started writing a web comic for fun.  It’s called Lilly the Pug and you can find it on Tumblr (click here).

Wishing you all a very Happy Holidays.

With Love,
Jessica

We Adopted a Pug!

Pug dogYou may have noticed there was no “origami printable” this week.  Well, there’s a good reason for that. I’ve been busy taking care of this sweet little pug.  Her name is Lilly and she’s about six years old.  We adopted her from Pug Rescue of Sacramento.  We started the process in June and we finally were able to take her home last weekend.  So far she has been very calm and doesn’t bark.  What has surprised me most is how she follows me everywhere.  She will not let me out of her sight!

I’ve never had a dog before so this is all very new to me.  I do know that pugs require a lot of care from all my research.  I also know I have a lot to learn.  If you have any helpful tips whether it be snacks, toys, etc., I’d love to hear.

Life Hack: How to keep your Handbag Clean

Handbag hackAfter lots of searching for the perfect handbag (which could be a post in itself), I finally found one.  There was just one problem, this bag was made of soft leather.  In other words, this handbag could soak up dirt quicker than a toddler in a mud puddle.  That combined with me having to set it on the ground created a real dilemma. My solution, the shower cap hack!
Handbag hack 2Out of necessity, I came up with the idea of covering my handbag with a shower cap anytime I set it down on the ground.  When I’m not using the shower cap, I just turn it inside out and keep it in my bag.  So far, the only drawback from this hack is my family making fun of the shower cap.  I think I can live with that.

*If you have a larger handbag, I recommend using a stretch to fit food cover (basically a giant shower cap).

Origami Koi Fish

origami koiHi everyone!  Sorry there’s no origami printable this week.  It’s been a very busy month for me.  I just returned back from LA.  It’s the second time I’ve driven there in two weeks!

Instead of posting all my trips and activities on Zakka Life, I’ve been posting on Instagram.  Pictured above is a recent photo I shared of two origami koi fish I folded.  If you’re curios to see what else I’ve been up to, you can follow me on Instagram.

Printable: Cactus Origami Paper

Cactus Origami PaperHave I ever told you about the time I ran into a cactus?  True story:  When I was in the sixth grade, my parents let me go to Mexico with my best friend’s family for a month!  Everyday we would go hiking. One day I was running down a hill that we just hiked up and ran into a small cactus.  I ended up with a bunch of little spines sticking out of my leg just like you would see in a cartoon.  Luckily I wasn’t hurt bad.  My leg was just sore for a day or two.  So now every time I see a cactus, I can’t help but think of that story.

What does this have to do with origami paper?  Nothing really except the origami paper of the week is a cactus print.   Click here for the origami paper printable.

Mexico TripFor those interested, above is a picture of the camper we drove/lived in around Mexico.  In the picture is my friend’s little brother. If it looks like we were out in the middle of nowhere it’s because we were.  The trip was a little crazy but a great life experience.
