On My Radar: Jewelry Designer, Vania Ruiz

Perhaps a year ago I discovered Chilean Jewelry Designer Vania Ruiz.  She is the designer behind the jewelry line, Casa Kiro.  Ever since, I’ve been enamored with her work.  Vania’s jewelry stood out to me for it’s exquisite beauty and its true uniqueness.  She incorporates spices and algae native to Valparaiso, Chili into her jewelry.  She also works with traditional materials such as resin, sterling silver, copper and brass.

The photos of Vania’s jewelery (pictured above and below) are from her Siempre Viva (Always Live) Collection.  Many of the pieces from this collection are big and bold.  However, she also makes more delicate jewelry that could be worn everyday.

Gift Wrap with Origami Letters

DIY Gift Wrap with Origami Letters Here’s another crafty idea using origami letters, gift wrap toppers.  They add a nice decorative element to packages and double as name tags.  I used different shades of blue origami paper to achieve an ombre effect.  Try mixing different colors/prints of paper and letters to create your own unique look.

For this project I used 3in by 3in origami paper to make the letters.  The instructions for the origami letters can be found here (scroll down after the jump).

My Mother’s Day Wish List

mother's day wish listI’ve been compiling a little wish list for Mother’s Day (my husband requested it). It’s comprised of mainly handmade goods that I’ve bookmarked overtime.  Take a look and tell me what you think.

1.  Black Cloche Hat by Behida Dolic Millinery – There’s also a fabulous straw hat with green trim that I like.  Realistically, I probably will not be receiving one of these hats since they average $400.  But I suppose that’s why the tittle says “Wish List” and now “I Will Get List”.

2.  December Mountain Necklace by iamabird –  This was one of my favorite necklaces out of all her work but I really like the idea that you can have a custom necklace made.

3.  Gold Lace Ring by Inbar Shahak – I’ve ordered a couple of pieces from this designer before; she’s one of my favorites.

4.  Marimo Terrarium by Pink Serissa –  Part of me likes this just for the fact that it might be the one plant I can keep alive.  Apparently these little moss balls can live up to 200 years!
